Waste to Energy
When people hear the terms "sustainable energy," they usually think of solar and wind power. However, waste to energy technologies, which turn non-recyclable waste into usable forms of energy, also have enormous potential as sustainable energy sources. Technologies like anaerobic digestion, which biologically converts organic material into compost as well as biogas for energy, not only reduce waste but also produce clean energy. ISTC researchers are working on new, more efficient technologies to take waste products and turn them into sustainable energy feedstocks.
